STAY
ORIGINAL
STAY KINSHASA.
Original.cd is the loud, proud home of Congolese creativity. Rumba, soukous, ndombolo, sape fashion, street art, Lingala street wisdom — we document the real Congo, from Matonge to Masina, from Brazzaville river breeze to Goma beats.
We are the memory & future of Congo.
Original.cd started as a small blog in a cybercafé on Blvd Lumumba. Today it's a cultural archive and creative movement. We believe Congolese culture is not folklore — it's future. We film, record, write and party with the people who make Kinshasa shake.
From Franco Luambo's rumba to Fally Ipupa's stadium anthems, from Papa Wemba's sape to young trap kids in Lemba — if it's original, if it's from the heart of Africa, it lives here. No stereotypes, no pity stories. Only dignity, rhythm and color.
What makes Congo original?
Three rivers of energy feed everything we publish: music that never sleeps, fashion that turns sidewalk into runway, and art that speaks louder than politics.
Rumba, Soukous & Ndombolo
From 1940s OK Jazz to today's Afrobeats fusion. Guitars that cry, voices that heal, dances that break TikTok.
Elegance is a Statement
Yves Saint Laurent has nothing on Victoire. Color clashes, pocket squares, handmade shoes — dignity stitched daily.
Kinshasa Paints Itself
Mega murals in Barumbu, recycled sculpture, comic BD, digital creators. The city is a gallery without walls.
Artists we love loud
Franco Luambo Makiadi
The Grand Maître. 1000+ songs, OK Jazz, the Shakespeare of rumba. Every guitar lick in Kinshasa still answers to him.
Fally, Ferré, Innoss'B
Stadium fillers mixing Lingala with R&B and amapiano. Kinshasa to Paris to Abidjan — sold out everywhere.
Chéri Samba & Young Wolves
Pop philosophy on canvas. Satire, bright color, Lingala proverbs. New generation remixes it for Instagram & NFTs.
African Jazz fuses Cuban son with Lingala storytelling. Kinshasa (then Léopoldville) becomes Africa's music capital.
James Brown, Miriam Makeba, Tabu Ley share stage. The world discovers Zaire's groove.
Papa Wemba takes elegance global. La Sape becomes philosophy: clean clothes, clean heart.
Digital Kinshasa: 60% under 25, smartphones, studios in every commune. The future speaks Lingala.
Kinshasa city guide by locals
Forget tourist brochures. Here is where Kinois actually go — to dance, eat, pray and show off.
Where Music Never Sleeps
Ngandas, open-air concerts, grilled mbinzo and Primus. Every night a new star is born on a plastic chair. Must-hear: live sebene till 4AM.
Read Matonge storiesThe River is a Soul
Second largest river on Earth. Ferries to Brazzaville, fishermen at dawn, sunsets that look like molten copper. Take a ride, feel small, feel free.
River diaries🍗 Malewa Culture
Pondu, fufu, liboke, brochettes. Best malewa? Ask a taxi driver, not Google. Budget: $2 feast.
💃 Nganda Nights
Open bars with rumba, debate and sape contest. Rule #1: never rush a Kinois night.
🛍️ Marché Total & Gambela
Wax prints, vinyl records, vintage sape suits. Haggle with smile, leave with treasure.
